Reuniting for the first time in several years, the founding
members of Division 13 Productions (then called Thirteenth
Tribe) chose to begin their work with an ensemble-created,
intimately humanist study of urban life. The text was an assemblage
of original work inspired by (among other things) local history,
television and radio news broadcasts, and local crime patterns.
The Precipice was developed over six months, serving a specific
purpose: to build a viable ensemble. The individual members
used this development period to share their influences, question
one another’s goals, and explore the company’s
literary and aesthetic future.
About the Production:
The Precipice was performed in the basement studio theatre
of The Chopin Theatre, a space that would in later years
become a hub for the burgeoning theatre community of Wicker
Park.
